Shipping Explained

We don’t just manufacture your furniture and hand it over. We support you through the entire process, from production through to export and delivery. While we operate on an EXW (Ex Works) basis, we are very hands-on and are happy to arrange shipping on your behalf, guide you through the export process and assist with appointing an import agent if needed. Below, we’ve outlined everything you need to know about manufacturing, exporting and importing so you know exactly what to expect at every stage.

Export Licenses and Certificates:

Various certifications depending on your goods.

Ocean Bill of Lading (B/L): Serves as a receipt for shipped goods and a contract for their carriage.

Cargo Insurance Certificate: Assures coverage against loss or damage during transit.

SVLK or V-Legal Documentation: Verifies the legality of wood products.

Customs Documentation:

The complete set of documents required for the export process.

Certificate of Origin:

Confirms the goods' country of origin, a key document for international trade

Commercial Invoice: Provides the value of your goods to customs, crucial for determining duties.

Packing List:

Lists the specifics of each package, aiding in shipment handling.

Cubic Volume Explained

When considering an order with us, it’s important to understand how much stock can fit inside a shipping container and how to ensure your order meets our minimum requirements. Our catalogue, which can be requested via the form below, will guide you through the ordering process. We work with containers in three sizes: 20ft (33 cubes), 40ft (68 cubes), and 40ft HC (76 cubes), ensuring flexibility for your shipment needs.

20ft = 33 cubes

40ft = 72 cubes

40ft HC = 76 cubes

Unpacking Explained

We want to make the unpacking process as smooth as possible for you. Typically, it only takes a few hours to unload your container, and in most cases, you won't need forklifts or special equipment unless your shipment contains heavy items like stone products or if you specifically asked for pallets. To give you a better understanding of what to expect, we've created a video showing our team unloading a container. This visual guide demonstrates how simple the unpacking process is and provides tips on how to efficiently manage your own shipment when it arrives.

Estimated Freight Costs

It's important to note that these freight rates are subject to weekly changes, potentially increasing or decreasing based on market conditions. We take pride in ensuring that there is NO MARKUP on these costs; customers pay exactly what the shipping liner charges. This commitment to fairness means that we diligently shop around for the cheapest, fastest, and most reliable freight rate available at the time of manufacturing, ensuring you receive the best possible deal.

Included in your shipping invoice are all necessary documents for international transport, ensuring a smooth and compliant journey for your goods. These vital documents include the Certificate of Origin, Ocean Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Cargo Insurance Certificate, Export Licenses and Certificates, SVLK or V-Legal Documentation, and Customs Documentation.

Your Order's Journey

We take pride in producing well-made, handcrafted furniture with real character. Each piece is made using natural materials and traditional processes, which means no two items are ever the same. Our wooden products have a natural ability to respond to their environment, expanding and contracting with changes in humidity.

To protect your order during transit, we use strong, considered packing methods. This includes moisture-resistant wrapping and materials selected to help absorb humidity and reduce movement during shipping. While wood will always react to its environment to some degree, we take every reasonable step to minimise the impact of climate changes during transport. We do recommend shipping insurance for added peace of mind.

Eight Degrees South does not offer refunds or replacements for natural movement, changes in timber or the effects of transit. We work with natural materials because of their authenticity, character and beauty, and these qualities come with variation. Every piece is unique and intended to be appreciated as such.

Client-Organized Freight:
Our Collaborative Approach

In the event that you prefer to arrange your own freight, we fully support your choice and welcome you to do so. However, it's important to note that the local cargo company, along with our dedicated 8 Degrees South team, will still manage the collection, packing, and container stuffing process. This policy is in place to ensure that we maintain control over how the goods are shipped and guarantee that they receive the utmost care during packing. Unfortunately, clients cannot arrange these specific steps themselves, as this could impact the quality and integrity of the shipment. Rest assured, our expert handling is designed to protect your investment and ensure your goods arrive in perfect condition.

Estimated charges: $2750.00 (Collection, documentation, packaging/crates, document courier fee, bill of lading, fumigation, v-legal certificate for wood, dry absorbers)
